The City of Wasco is a small, rural town. The 2000 census listed the population of Wasco at 380 people. This is down from 420 people in 1998. Wasco's elevation is 1270 feet.
The town of Wasco was named for the Indian Tribe. The town was originally designated the county seat of Sherman County by the Legislative Assembly, although the selection was contested between Wasco and Moro. Moro benefited from the addition to the southern part of the county of a portion of Wasco County in 1891 and was the eventual winner of a series of elections to select a county seat.
