Home Valley, Washington
The unincorporated community of Home Valley is located in south-central Skamania County, on Washington Highway 14 along the Columbia River.
The Wind Mountain Trail is nearby. Due to its steep south face and location directly above
the river, it is one of the most istinguished features of the gorge.
The turnoff for the trailhead is at milepost 50.54 on Washington 14, the Wind Mountain Road
(0.4 of a mile east of the Home Valley Store). Follow Wind Mountain Road for 1.6 miles, take
a right on Girl Scout Road. Park after driving 0.3 miles on Girl Scout Road at a small quarry
where the paved road turns to gravel.
Walk 250 yards down the gravel road. Watch for an unmarked, but easily identified, trail that
leaves the road to the right. The well-graded trail switchbacks across the mountain from its
northeast to southeast sides as it climbs to the top.
Nearby Dog Mountain Trail, at 2,948 feet elevation, offers one of the best vistas in the Columbia Gorge for experienced hikers.
