Welcome to the Columbia River Gorge

The unincorporated community of Dallesport, Washington, is located on the Dallesport Peninsula in south-central Klickitat County. Dallesport is a small community (pop. 1,185) located on the bluffs of the Columbia River, The area has a commanding view of Mt. Hood to the South, and Mt. Adams to the East. Dallesport is located in the east end of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

Dallesport, once called Rockport, used to be the county seat, but now the county seat is located in Goldendale about 25 miles north.

Close to Dallesport, and located about a mile directly west on Washington Highway 14, is the unincorporated community of Murdock.

These communities are served by a rural fire district, and is part of the Lyle School District, which operates the Lyle-Dallesport Elementary School here. Middle school and High School students attend school in nearby Lyle.

Dallesport is directly across the Columbia from the community of The Dalles, Oregon (pop 12,250). The Dalles Bridge connects the two communities, making it a short five or ten minute trip to shopping and large grocery stores in Oregon where there is no sales tax. Closest hospital is Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, which is a national model for implementing the Planetree philosophy of integrated holistic health care. The hospital has a sleep disorder treatment center, the Mind Body center for stress reduction, and one of the region's newest cancer treatment facilities, the Celilo Center. Skyline Hospital in White Salmon is the closest Washington state hospital.

Closest large metropolitan areas are Vancouver, Washington, and Portland Oregon, approximately 80-85 miles west (about an hour and a half to drive), and Yakima, Washington to the north.

Also located in Dallesport is the Columbia Gorge Regional Municipal Airport. The airport is publicly owned, and available for public use. Jetstream Aviation operates flying services, including aircraft rentals, repair service, scenic flights, and FAA certified flight instructor flying lessons. The airport has a small restaurant, the Aero Bistro. You can eat your meals while watching the local aircraft activity.

Golf Courses - Golfers enjoy the dry winter climate in north central Oregon. The wind can add an additional challenge at times. The Dalles Country Club offers a 9-hole regulation length golf course, and is now open to non-members, and a new 18 hole Golf Course is being developed for Dallesport. Park contains the famous petroglyph Tsagaglalal, or "She Who Watches." This is one of the many petroglyphs and pictographs found in the eastern Columbia River Gorge area. The gorge has been occupied by native cultures for at least 10,000 years. Advanced arrangements need to be made with the local park authorities, as the trail leading to Tsagaglala has been closed to protect this treasure from vandalism.
