WIC (Women, Infants & Children) Program


WIC is a nutrition education program to provide support to young families during critical periods of growth and development. The program provides assessment, nutrition and health education and counseling, supplemental food vouchers, referrals and support to families

Who's Eligible for WIC?
Residents of Wasco or Sherman County who are
* Pregnant women
* Breastfeeding women
* Children up to five
* Have medical/nutritional need, and
* Meet our liberal income guidelines (call us for details.)

What does WIC provide?
Specific supplemental foods (i.e. milk, cheese, cereal, peanut butter/beans, juice, formula, etc.)
Education and information
Referral resource to a variety of health and social services
Breastfeeding support for all pregnant women and new mothers
Growth and developmental evaluations for children
Blood tests for anemia and health history evaluations
Caring and professional staff
Confidential participation
All of the services listed above are offered free of charge to WIC participants.

How do I get WIC?
Call and make an appointment for your local WIC clinic (541) 296-4636
Come to your WIC appointment and meet the WIC team!
After you finish the application appointment, and the WIC counselor finds you to be eligible, you will be given food vouchers for healthy foods. You can use these vouchers at a local store of your choice.
